  • ISBN-13: 978-0971392618
  • Hattie and Her 43 Cats - $9.99

Author: Judy Bruns; Illustrator: Mary Coons

    Author Bio:
Author and Ohio teacher Judy Bruns models for her students a love for the written word. Published in newspapers, magazines, and other media, she is now meeting with positive reviews in the world of children’s books. Hattie and Her 43 Cats, her most recent children’s story, addresses the onset of Alzheimer’s with the compassion and sensitivity fitting for a young audience. Her first book, Donnie, Lost in the Cornfield, follows an event in the life of a young, mentally handicapped boy.

    Summary:
In Hootin’ Holler County, Hattie’s house is in disrepair, and her rambunctious cats need tending to. It doesn’t help that her mind is failing her, besides. . . Bruns reminds us that we are never to forget the dignity of the human person, in spite of the disease.

    Review:
Hattie and Her 43 Cats brings about a better understanding in the world of someone who is suffering from Alzheimers Disease. These people already feel disoriented and forgetful. Being forgotten by family members and friends is the one thing they don't need. They need family and friends the most to remind them of how much they are loved and cared for..and certainly not forgotten.

This story brings about Hattie's condition and shares some of her experiences and emotions. The ending of the story brings about compassion and understanding. Being a picture book, children of all ages will be able to better understand the affect this disease has on someone and how to best handle it. By always showing love and compassion, the person is never forgotten or feeling left out of a world they once belonged too.

Interview for The Not So Wicked, Wicked Witch

Come and join me as I talk with author Amy Purser Carter for her new picture book The Not So Wicked, Wicked Witch on Stories From Unknown Authors http://blogtalkradio.com/storiesfromunknownauthors @ 1pm EST.

The Not So Wicked, Wicked Witch!

  • Paperback: 24 pages
  • Publisher: Outskirts Press (August 24, 2009)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1432737813
  • ISBN-13: 978-1432737818

  • The Not So Wicked, Wicked Witch is a children's book about a witch that is "labeled" in name only. The story itself reveals an old philosophy "you cannot judge a book by it's cover, but read the contents and then decide". The Witch in this book has the "witch image", however, get to really know her and see who she is inside and out!

    Bio:

Amy Carter is a native Mississippian. She is a graduate of Jackson Preparatory and University of Mississippi achieving her Bachelor Degree in English and History.
Amy’s career has been in marketing mainly within the insurance industry. Writing children’s literature has been a hobby she has enjoyed for many years which led to the recent publication of The Not So Wicked, Wicked Witch.

    Review:

The Not So Wicked, Wicked Witch is a delightfully fun story that encourages children to look beyond what they see and to never assume they know someone until they really take the time to. Witches usually get a bad rap for being wicked and nasty. The witch in this story does not fit that mold. She is far from wicked and delights in wearing pink instead of orange. Her hobbies include baking wonderfully smelling cookies to share with the children in the her neighborhood, and though she has tried to follow the ways of other wicked witches, this witch has realized that being good is much more fun.

Children from ages 3 to 10 will love this new seasonal favorite, and readers alike will enjoy the fascinating illustrations of this adorable character.

It isn’t until Dr. Ced E. Meant’s presentation at the Metropolitan Museum before the event where, during a presentation where he discusses his findings concerning the erosion of some area parks, he discovers his research has been stolen, which contains information the world would be interested in knowing. At the fundraising event, truth’s unfold that will baffle detectives Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill leading them to suspects they never thought could have committed the crime. Will they be able to solve the case before Dr. Ced E. Meant’s research goes global? Join the detectives on their journey in learning about the topics of weather, erosion and art. Review:

Natalie Newport has created an interesting and wonderful character in her heroine Ninja Nanny. Her penchant for firefighters, her job as a nanny, and the stress relief she finds in doing martial arts, makes for a character full of drive, strength, patience, and confidence. The story flows well with Natalie's adventures in romance and in her everyday life, capturing the readers attention, wondering what will happen next. A character living a double life, yet the acceptance of it from the ones we love is always an uncertainty. Will Natalie be able to do all the things she needs and wants to do without fail? Interview with Meaghan Fisher for I Love Ladybugs

Come and join me as I talk with author and publisher Meaghan Fisher for her new picture book I Love Ladybugs!  on Stories From Unknown Authors http://blogtalkradio.com/storiesfromunknownauthors @ 1pm EST.

    Summary:
Ladybugs, ladybugs, all around. Follow along with toddler Emma Rose as she finds ladybugs in her garden, in her house, and on her toys…to her delight! Inspired by the author’s real-life daughter.

    Review:

This story is delightfully simple with colorful and well drawn illustrations that will capture the reader’s attention. Ladybugs, with their red and black colors, and ability to show up everywhere, are quite fascinating to watch. Mrs. Fisher brings these insects to life, and draws out the youthful excitement they can bring just by following them around. Young children will love Emma Rose's adventure in search of ladybugs and will read it over and over again.
