    Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser

    Summary
We are working with Susan G. Komen in a Rally for the Cure Tennis Event for breast cancer awareness. Having many people in our lives being impacted by having breast cancer or just having cancer in general, our tennis club, Genesee Valley Sports Center, wish to help the people in our community in any way we can. In the community of Flint, which still hasn't quite recovered from the down turn in the economy, our goal is to help the many women out there who need to prevent this disease, or to catch it in time by getting a breast exam in a timely fashion. We hope to make a big impact.

    What We Need

We would love to raise several thousand dollars for this event to donate to our local Susan G Komen chapter. But even if we do not reach our goal whatever money we have raised will still go to our local chapter. On October 27th at Genesee Valley Sports Center we will be having a rally event where we will conduct a day full of activities for our members/nonmembers and anyone who wishes to participate in the community. Our round robin tournament will be our biggest event along with the silent auction. Any money raised from these events will go right to Rally for the Cure and Susan G. Komen for breast cancer awareness.

Because we have an award-winning children's author on staff, Renee Hand, she will personally donate an author visit to any school in the United States who donates more than $300. She will be at the school all day talking and signing copies of her many books. She will contact the school personally and set up the visit.

The tennis pros on staff will also be donating private one hour lessons. We will be having things like beat the pro to win prizes. Clinics for all ages, seniors, adults, as well as for children. Tennis stroke analysis and much more. We have some great sponsors who have donated some wonderful silent auction items. The donation fee to be in the days events is $25. All money goes to Rally for the Cure and Susan G. Komen.

Anyone can also donate silent auction items if they do not have the funds. Whatever donation we receive is greatly appreciated in any form. The items must be received before the day of the event. Anyone can email questions to cdrahand@yahoo.com.

    Other Ways You Can Help

Even if you can't donate anything, you can still help. Maybe you are a blogger or love to facebook. Please share with the world what we are doing. Make some noise and see if we can't help such a worthy cause as this.

If you can't make the event please donate funds through the above link. Any amount would be appreciated.

Interview for Dark Moon by Maggie Tideswell

Come and join me as I talk with author Maggie Tideswell for Dark Moon on Stories From Unknown Authors http://blogtalkradio.com/storiesfromunknownauthors @ 1pm EST.

    Dark Moon

  • Paperback: 240 pages
  • Publisher: All Things That Matter Press (September 19, 2011)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0984651764
  • ISBN-13: 978-0984651764

  • A spellbinding novel of love, murder, and the supernatural. Chance meetings can have far-reaching effects. Loved ones may not be who they seem. The line between comprehension and confusion is thin ~ particularly when one's thoughts are being manipulated by another. In Dark Moon, the eternal triangle takes an innovative twist into the occult as dark magic fights against those who serve the Light. The prize? A woman's soul.

    Bio:

Maggie Tideswell was born and raised in sunny South Africa, where she still resides. She has always been intrigued by finding "the purpose" and the dimensions of reality. She believes that actions have consequences, that if one shakes the web of existence in one place, the whole web moves. Maggie explores these themes in everything from her poetry and short stories to her novels.

    Review:

Dark Moon is a timeless mixture of love, determination and the supernatural. The story has twists and turns that readers will appreciate, yet keeps the reader interested until the very end when all truths are revealed. Storm is a strong enough woman to resist Trevors secret plan for her, yet when a new man who truly loves her swoops in to save her from herself, she cannot see all that he has to offer. Will it be too late to see the love Jarred has for her and the wonderful life that could be hers or will her own stubborness and repressed, mind controling, feelings for her old flame cause her more pain and suffering than she could ever imagine?

Maggie Tideswell does a tremendous job mixing elements together in this 240 page novel, for it to become many paranormal romance readers new favorite.

He calls it Operation BS, his code name for a mission to introduce his sister to a boy she has a crush on. Book Review:

Vin and the Dorky Duet is a relateable story most children will be able to relate to, especially if they have siblings to contend with. The charming minds of children sometimes run a muck when fate steps in to lend a hand. Children in middle school will enjoy this 56 page story. The story has twists and turns that throws Vin in a different direction in which he had started, giving him a chance at a future possible career he had never thought of. This story is fun and takes the reader on a ride of self discovery and the relationships children have with their families.

Book Review for The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Andersen/Maja Dusikova

    The Princess and the Pea

  • Hardcover: 24 pages
  • Publisher: Floris Books (March 1, 2012)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0863158579
  • ISBN-13: 978-0863158575

  • Summary:
The prince is looking for a true princess to be his wife, but all the girls he meets are too rude, too vain or too greedy. One stormy night a young lady knocks on the palace door claiming to be a princess, so the queen decides to put her to the test. Will she feel the pea underneath the huge pile of mattresses? This classic fairy tale is wonderfully brought to life with soft, colourful illustrations by popular illustrator Maja Dusikova.

    Author Bio:

Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author and writer of children's fairy tales, such as The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina and The Ugly Duckling, which have become much-loved classics around the world. Maja Dusikova was born in Slovakia in 1946. She has illustrated over forty books for children. She lives with her family in Florence, Italy.

    Review:

The Princess and the Pea is a timeless classic fairy tale that has been done over and over again. Though this version is similar to the rest, it's the delightful illustrations that set this book apart. Illustrator Maja Dusikova has created a realistic feel to the story which is hard to duplicate. The illustrations are soft and charming, keeping up with the time period of castles and the unique characters you would find in them. The detail makes the reader feel as if they were apart of the story, wondering if the princess who arrived is really who she says she is. Though the pea tells the truth, in order for her to feel it, it must be made of steel. A wonderful book fit for readers young and old.
